Clogau Update
Commencement of Second Gold Coin Auction
Alba Mineral Resources Plc (AIM: ALBA) is pleased to confirm that, following the successful sale of the first of its limited edition 1oz Welsh gold coins, the second coin auction has now commenced.
Alba has minted just three exclusive 24-carat, 1-ounce "Tyn-y-Cornel" gold coins, each of which has been made entirely from gold extracted by the Company from the Clogau-St David's Gold Mine in Wales ("Clogau" or the "Mine"). The auction for the first of these coins closed on 3 April 2025 with the hammer price reaching £20,000, a premium of almost 8.5 times the then spot (or market) price of gold.
The auction will close this Wednesday, 16 April, at 5pm BST, unless the "buy-it now" price is met before that time. Collectors and investors are invited to register for the auction at https://alba.irostrum.auction/.
Figure 1: The front of the coin features a striking Welsh dragon atop Cadair Idris, one of Snowdonia's (Eryri's) most famous mountains. Background: specimen of quartz containing visible gold from Clogau-St David's (not included in the auction lot).
Figure 2: The reverse of the coin pays homage to the Mine's golden era with an image inspired by historic photographs of miners outside the Tyn-y-Cornel adit. Background: specimen of quartz containing visible gold from Clogau-St David's (not included in the auction lot).
The coin will be presented in a presentation case and accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.
George Frangeskides, Executive Chairman, commented:
"We are delighted to announce the commencement of the second public auction of our beautifully designed and crafted limited edition 1-ounce pure Welsh gold coins. This is the first gold production to come out of the historic Clogau-St David's Gold Mine in more than 25 years. The first coin fetched an impressive price at auction, testament to the enduring and exceptional appeal of gold derived from the Clogau Gold Mine. We look forward to following the progress of bidding until the hammer falls this Wednesday evening."
